The custom competition has five main categories:

Show and Shine

Three judges will be chosen close to the convention date each year.

Cars will be labelled with a placement card with the customised cars details, individual number and category.

The Show and Shine will be its own category for people to bring any customs along to the event to show off.

Each car will be numbered so that people can vote for the best show and shine car.

RULES:

All customs in the custom competition are to be your own work. No collaboration/joint effort customs the only exception is on decals. All card art, painting and body modifications are to be done by you.

This competition is strictly for paying attendees of the Convention only – the general public cannot enter.

Stock (Beginner):

Entry level category, perfect for beginners. For this category your custom must remain a stock Hot Wheels car body wise. You may only add paint, decals and wheels.

Modified (Intermediate):

The modified category is similar to Stock but for this category you are also allowed to do minor body modifications. Examples include adding/deleting spoilers, engines, interiors etc. As long as it still has a resemblance to the original casting.

Super Modified (Intermediate to Expert):

For this category there are no restrictions. You may use any Hot Wheels castings, any alterations may be done including, roof chops, grafting cars together, etc. You may use any parts/wheels from other brands. There is no limit so use your imagination!

New Zealand Classics:

This is your chance to replicate something iconic that either has raced or been an outstanding show car in the New Zealand Car scene. This class would be best displayed with a photo of the original car you are replicating to tell a small story of its heritage.
